Nena & Co is another Utah based brand. They’re a great company that supports artisans in different places around the world and allows them to make a living off of their beautiful craft. As most of you know, I used to live and be based in Utah. And I always wanted to work for them. I just felt like our aesthetic and goals and mission were just so aligned. Before I moved to L.A., we started shooting together. And this was one of our earlier projects. For the first project, I had traveled to Guatemala to shoot for them with Quigley. This Joshua Tree shoot was my second shoot with them. And it was just so amazing to shoot in a location as gorgeous as Joshua Tree.
For this shoot, we had a stylist, hair & makeup and one of my favorite models from Utah. It was a super super hot day but great to take advantage of such an amazing desert location. Fun fact: This shoot was one of the main inspirations for my Joshua Tree preset pack. I was just so inspired by the dry desert, the boulders, the colors of the boulders, and the cacti. I felt like grainy gritty vintage film-like vibes with cooler highlights and warmer undertones was very much that Kodak film style look. And I knew that’s how I wanted to edit these Nena & Co photos.
We shot all day at Joshua Tree and then also shot at this really famous house called the Joshua Tree House. (One of the first to get an Instagram following). It was an all-girl squad, two day shoot, and we nailed it. We shot hundreds of Nena & Co bags which were all made in Guatemala. They were so colorful and ornate, and looked perfect in these two settings.
I loved this shoot and hope you do too!
